Julie's 63 Marathons in 2026 (cumulatively!)

I am going to be 63 (where does the time go?) in 2026 which means I was born in 1963. To ‘celebrate’ (not sure if that is the right word!) I am going to run the cumulative equivalent of 63 marathons during the year for charity, which is just over 1,650 miles.

I am raising funds for Somerset Sight.

Somerset Sight is a fantastic local charity which supports people with sight loss. Discovering you are losing your sight can be a devastating blow, which can be a disorientating, scary and lonely time. Somerset Sight aims to provide services, training and leisure activities that will help maintain independence and improve the quality of life of anyone who is affected by sight loss.

I aim to raise funds for this very special and really worthy charity by running the cumulative total of 63 marathons during 2026 to 'celebrate' being 63 years old. I was also born in 1963, hence the 63 marathons!

Hello! I completed number 53 at the weekend (6th September) so only 10 to go now - then I think it is time for a little lie-in one morning! Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me, which really spurs me on.

Just to give you a quick update and to thank everyone who has been kind enough to sponsor me so far - I have now completed 21 marathons (9th April), and have run a total of 555.5 miles so far this year! Thank you for your support - only 42 marathons to go! xxx

Across Somerset there are estimated to be 19,000 people living with visual impairment. At least one in five of those people never leave their home alone. We are an independent, self-funding local charity reaching out to sight impaired people in both the towns and villages of Somerset with a range of services and activities. We know that life doesn’t stop just because your sight has been affected. Our aim is to provide services, training and leisure activities that will help maintain independence and improve the quality of life of anyone who is affected by sight loss.
